10- Goodfellas
At number ten is the iconic movie Goodfellas which has to be one of the top 100 movies of all time. Released in 1990 and directed by Coppola, the movie focusses on the Mafia and its internal politics. Produced by Martin Scorsese, the viewer is drawn into the underground world of the Mafia and its violence and treachery, even today, practically every adult has heard of or watched Goodfellas and if you haven’t enjoyed this tremendous movie yet, you’re missing out.
9- Raiders of the Lost Ark
This brilliant movie appeared on screen in 1981 starring Harrison Ford in the adventure story Raiders of the Lost Ark. With incredible scenery and cinematography, you’re treated to stunning imagery and a storyline that has you hanging on the edge of your seat, longing for more. The success of the movie led to sequels that reached similar acclaim.
8- Avengers: Infinity War
This 2018 Marvel movie was a superhero film that united the biggest, best Marvel heroes against the evil Mad Titan. The Infinity War takes place on different planets trying to prevent Thanos from destroying much of the universe. Expect planetary battles and plenty of punch in this powerful sci-fi fantasy. This movie has all the ingredients of every superhero fan’s desires and never disappoints.
7- Pulp Fiction
In at number 7, we’ve placed Pulp Fiction which is definitely one of the top 100 movies of all time. Quentin Tarantino’s 1994 smash hit is hilariously funny, even in its darkest moments. It has plenty of violence and lots of cliff hangers. Without doubt one of Tarantino’s best ever movies, it’s streets ahead of another famous movie, Reservoir Dogs and doesn’t fail to raise your heart rate.
6- Jaws
No list of the top 100 movies of all time would be complete without nail-biting Jaws. The fearsome shark stalks the beaches of California killing innocent sunbathers and swimmers with relentless abandon. It’s a battle of people vs shark while they try and kill the dangerous shark and restore calm on the beaches once again. Even though this movie premiered in 1975, it still looks just as good today on the big screen as it did almost 50 years ago.
5- The Shawshank Redemption
In 1994, The Shawshank Redemption hit the big screen, narrated by Morgan Freeman. A wonderful movie that traces the journey of two imprisoned men, one of which is imprisoned after being found guilty of a crime he did not commit. The two men bond over the years and find solace in each other and redeem themselves through common acts of decency.
4- The Dark Knight
Another superhero movie, The Dark Knight is part of the Batman series and premiered in 2008. An epic crime story where good must conquer evil, this action movie covers the story of a gang of criminals who rob a bank in Gotham City. The Joker is another infamous character who appears in the movie along with Batman and old friends from the early Gotham days. One of the classics, if you love Batman, you will thoroughly enjoy an evening of the Dark Knight with a box of popcorn.
3- The Godfather
This movie was Francis Ford Coppola’s adaptation of Mario Puzo’s famous novel, and many people describe it as the best movie ever made. Another Mafia inspired story; this was the beginning of the dawn of the mega-movie. Expect gangsters abound, plenty of criminal activity, violence and of course, immense style, the Godfather smashed box office records and is still regarded today as one of the top 100 movies of all time. If you haven’t seen it, you’re missing out.
2- Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back
This superhero movie first appeared on our screens back in 1980 and is by far the best of all the Star Wars movie. The second of the original Star Wars trilogy, this movie focusses on the struggles of the Rebel Alliance against the Galactic Empire. Hans Solo, Chewbacca and Princess Leia are hunted by Darth Vader who again, looks to control the universe. Another quite mesmerizing movie that leaves you hanging off the edge of your seat in awe.
1- The Lord of the Rings
In 2001, The Lord of the Rings leapt onto the screen and is in our opinion, the top of the best 100 movies of all times. Another fantasy movie, the unlikely heroes must save the world from evil. With incredible attention to detail and mind-blowing costumes and cinematography, every child over the age of 11 and adult should see it – it is an icon in its own right and perfectly takes all the imagination from the Tolkien book giving the viewer a truly gratifying on-screen experience.
